What are the Buggy terms & conditions?

Is linen included?

  • As your apartment is self-contained and equipped with a laundry, there is no daily maid or cleaning services provided.
  • If you would like to arrange a mid-stay service or linen change, please confirm at the time of booking or contact your cleaner directly – a fee will be payable directly to the cleaner.
  • All bed linen and bath towels are supplied (1 per guest).
  • Unless otherwise stated, our apartments feature a port-a-cot and high-chair. Please bring along your own cot linen if use of the cot is required.  
  • Beach or pool towels are available in most apartments, please confirm with our office. 
  • Your booking does not include the use of the Resort’s poolside beach towels so remember to bring one along. 

Are child seats required on a buggy?

  • Children under the age of 4 years are required to be secured in a child seat or capsule whilst travelling on a buggy. 
  • You can either bring your own seat or once you have arrived, hire one and have it fitted through Hamilton Island Buggy Hire located near the Resort Centre at a cost of $15 per day. This fee will be charged to a maximum of 4 days. For example, if you hire the seat for 7 days, the most you will have to pay is $60 (4 day hire).
  • For further information on this, call the Hamilton Island Buggy Hire on 07 4946 8263. Please keep in mind that seats are subject to availability, and they do not take pre-bookings. There is also a maximum of only two restraints allowed per buggy.

What activities are on offer?

Are Hamilton Island pools heated?

  • The Reef View Hotel, Beach Club and Bougainvillea Pools are heated.

Are there crocodiles on Hamilton Island?

  • Saltwater crocodile sightings in Airlie Beach and the surrounding Whitsunday Islands are extremely rare, as they prefer murky, brackish water to hunt in rather than the crystal-clear waters surrounding the islands. To see a crocodile, visit the Hamilton Island Wildlife Park.

Are there snakes on Hamilton Island?

  • The most common snakes found on Hamilton Island are the green tree snakes, brown tree snakes and pythons. Venomous snakes such as the eastern brown and taipans can be found on most of the Whitsunday islands.
  • Snakes are on display at the Hamilton Island Wildlife Park and the Wildlife Café.

Are dogs allowed on Hamilton Island?

  • Assistance dogs are permitted, and some permanent residents have permits to keep dogs. Look out for the very friendly Boson, the chocolate Labrador, who spends his days receiving belly rubs from the Chandlery customers.

Can you visit Hamilton Island for the day?

  • You can catch the ferry from Shute Harbour near Airlie Beach, but you will only see a small sample of what the Island has to offer in a day.

Can you swim at Hamilton Island?

  • Catseye Beach is an excellent place for swimming. Swim out past the reef at low tide to see the turtles.

Can you drink Hamilton Island water?

  • Yes, Hamilton Island water is okay to drink. As much of it runs through a reverse osmosis plant, it is good but not great.

Can you fish Hamilton Island?

  • Hamilton Island is great for fishing, but we recommend going out in a boat if possible. There are lots of dry land fishing spots scattered across the Island.

Can you walk Hamilton Island?

  • Hamilton Island has some great walking tracks with breathtaking views. Passage Peak offers spectacular views from the highest point on the Island. The Icons trail includes a 3m tall chair at Southeast Head, a giant swing at Coral Cove, and a giant hammock at Escape Beach. Cary, bring plenty of water and let someone know where you are going, as there is no mobile coverage on parts of these trails.

Can you drive to Hamilton Island?

  • Vehicle access from the mainland is only by barge, and cars are generally not permitted on Hamilton Island.

What to do on Hamilton Island?

  • There are activities for everyone on the Island, and it's even a popular place to get married.
  • Take an art class, try 9-pin bowling,  go racing on the go-cart track or quad bikes for the kids, off-road adventure tours, shopping, sports club/gym, fishing, bushwalking, golf, spa, cuddle a koala at the Wildlife Park or simply just relax by one of the resort pools; bougainvillea pool, main resort pool and sails pool, which are located on Catseye Beach.

What to pack for Hamilton Island?

  • Shorts and short sleeves are the go year around. Over the winter months, the nights can get a little cool, so another layer is a good idea. Some wet weather gear is also recommended over the summer months. Don’t forget your swimming togs.

Note that some of the independently owned outlets such as the Post Office, Trader Pete’s, The Ice Cream Parlour, Foots Gallery, Australia The Gift, Whitsunday Apartments Reception Kiosk, Hamilton Island Watersports, Topnotch Fishing Charters, Hamilton Island Air, Ropana Shiatsu Massage, Island Stylin and the Tavern top floor gaming/TAB area still allow cash.
  • Hamilton Island Private Apartments accommodation can be paid in cash by depositing money into our trust account from any Commonwealth Bank branch.
  • You can exchange cash for prepaid credit cards which are sold at the Post Office.
  • To avoid credit card surcharges with cards linked to savings accounts at Hamilton Island Enterprises outlets, advise the staff and insert your card rather than tap.
  • If travelling on to either Daydream or Hayman Islands note that they are both completely cashless.

  • There is currently no 5G coverage on Hamilton Island.   Most internet is 4G broadband via microwave/radio link back to the mainland.

  • The Chapel is located on Melaleuca Drive, which branches off from the Great Northern Highway when heading up towards One Tree Hill.

Hamilton Island Fish Traps

  • Escape Beach contains the remains of the Indigenous fish traps used by the Ngaro people.   The remnants of the fish traps are visible at low tide.  

Hamilton Island Dolphin Pool

  • Dolphins are no longer kept in the Dolphin Pool. It's a lovely, deep swimming pool in the resort centre.

Where can I order a custom cake or catering box?

Are there stinging plants on Hamilton Island?

  • The Dendrocnide moroides, commonly known as the Gympie-gympie or stinging tree, can be found throughout much of Northern Queensland and grows to around four meters in height. Avoid the side trail shortcuts that people use around the main hiking trails.  The hairs of the plant can pierce your skin and break off, causing severe pain and, in some cases, anaphylactic shock, which will require urgent medical attention.  Avoid any plant with furry heart-shaped leaves and stick to the main trails.

Hamilton Island and Airlie beach

  • Airlie Beach is the closest mainland location and has a regular direct ferry service to Hamilton Island.

Hamilton Island and Cairns?

  • There are minimal direct flights from Cairns to Hamilton Island.  Stopovers via Brisbane are readily available or you can fly to Proserpine and organise a resort connection from the airport.

Hamilton Island and kids?

  • The Island is a kid-friendly holiday destination with a large selection of activities for Kids

  • Hamilton Island is the closest accommodation to Whitsunday Island, which offers limited camping access.

  • Tropical Cyclone Kirrily was a Category 2 cyclone that made landfall near Townsville and caused widespread flooding in large areas of Queensland and the Northern Territory. Much of Hamilton Island was shut down for one day as a precautionary measure, as cyclone paths are extremely unpredictable.

  • Tropical Cyclone Jasper crossed the coast north of Port Douglas as a Category 2 cyclone in December 2023. The only impact on Hamilton Island was increased rainfall, which affected most of North Queensland. Tropical cyclone Jasper now holds the record for the wettest recorded cyclone, dumping over 2.2 meters of rain in the Daintree region and causing widespread flooding in North Queensland.
